研究をしていると学会が毎月、色々な場所で開催されていることがわかります。学生の間は発表する側でいることが多いですが、教員になると運営の仕事もすることになります。大学によってはドクターの学生も手伝うかもしれません。

今回は、学会運営で司会をするときのフレーズを紹介します。学会に限らず、会議の司会のように場をしきることがある人は使える英語ですので、参考にしてください。

座長でのフレーズ

学会や講演会で発表があるときに必ず登場するのが座長です。

学生だとあまり縁がない話かもしれませんが、助教以上になると学会での座長の話が来るようになります。

議論が進むように進行する役割もありますが、それ以外にも進行時間のチェックや発表と質疑応答の時間配分など、細かいことを入れれば仕事はたくさんあります。

そうなると、とっさに英語が出てこないということも往々にしてあります。本番で頭が真っ白にならないように、ここで言い回しを学んでおきましょう。

You will hear first bell at 7 minutes, second bell at 9 minutes, and third bell at 10 minutes.(発表が始まってから)7分で1回目のベル、9分で2回目のベル、10分で3回目のベルが鳴ります。
